How forklift mounted tablets drive efficiency in Northern Europe’s largest warehouse

The rugged tech that navigates Jula’s logistics operations

Challenge

Optimize the order-picking route in Jula’s distribution center, a building the size of 30 soccer fields.

Solution

Equip forklifts with rugged tablets that survive the constant vibrations of navigating a 150,000-square-meter warehouse.

Result

Smarter, more efficient warehouse management and uninterrupted delivery to 120+ stores in several countries.

“When we’ve worked as hard as we have to make our warehouse as perfect as possible when it comes to reliability and infrastructure, delivery security is of utmost importance. The present system is modern and fast, and the Algiz tablets are stable and reliable.”

– Urban Andersson, infrastructure IT system manager

Streamlining operations across the 150,000-square-meter warehouse

Today’s shoppers can place orders in seconds with the tap of a button — and they expect the shipment processes to be equally streamlined. A challenge that drives Jula’s commitment to the adoption of new technology in warehouse management.

Jula uses a pick-by-voice system that keeps workers’ hands completely free to operate machinery and handle goods. External scanners are used to scan each pallet’s label as it is loaded onto a delivery truck. Both solutions are made possible by using powerful forklift mounted tablets. The challenge is finding hardware that can endure the tough working conditions.

ALGIZ – Forklift mounted tablets that last

Jula’s forklifts run for many miles every day, sending constant vibrations through the tablet and its dock. Fortunately, there’s a sturdy warehousing tablet built for the task. The rugged Windows tablets are IP65-rated and also meet stringent MIL-STD-810G military standards. It’s well suited to harsh handling and industrial environments.

A strong, reliable dock is also a critical part of the solutions, and the Algiz vehicle dock in use at Jula is extremely sturdy. This versatile dock has a wide range of connection options, including two USB ports, two RS232 ports and an Ethernet port, along with GPS/WWAN pass-through.

Optimizing loading with intelligent systems

Per Lund, Jula’s warehouse manager, emphasizes the importance of strategic loading. “Our system is really good and intuitive, but our forklift drivers also have to use their brains and look out for certain items that can make the loading tricky. Picking large items first is key to getting the work done in the best way,” he explains.

The Algiz tablets complement this strategy. The forklift mounted tablets feature large 10-inch displays making the picking list easy to navigate. It enables operators to make informed decisions that streamline the loading sequence.

The precision of Jula’s delivery system is further augmented by using external scanners. Each pallet’s label is scanned as it is loaded onto delivery trucks and with the help of Algiz tablets, wirelessly transmitting inventory details to the back office and maintaining a meticulous record of every item’s location.

10-inch rugged tablets tailored for the job

The Algiz tablet’s durability, powerful processor and extensive ecosystem of accessories make it an ideal rugged tablet for logistics jobs. By integrating these ultra-rugged tablets into their forklifts, Jula has elevated the efficiency of its order-picking and shipping operations even further.
